Stylish stackables: The Skool dining chair by Karim Rashid
School furniture from where I grew up wasn’t anything spectacular. They were just your regular one-seater that incorporated a chair and a desk. Set up in rows, they did their job well enough. Today, though, chairs and tables found in classrooms are often much more attractive to look at. Pre-school furniture is especially cute. As they are designed for very young children, they’re often in bright colors and unusual shapes.
The Skool chair designed by Karim Rashid is certainly an improvement over the classroom chairs of my youth. While it wasn’t designed specifically for schoolrooms per se, it can still be used in an educational facility, maybe as contemporary café furniture in a school’s cafeteria. It is sturdy and lightweight, thus suitable for such a setting since schoolchildren tend not to treat school furniture with too much care.
It can be used to match with your writing desk at home, but if you own a bar of restaurant, then I think it would be café furniture UK patrons and elsewhere will appreciate. It doesn’t matter where your establishment is located in the world, the Skool chair’s design transcends cultural boundaries.
What are some of the other reasons why this chair would do well in commercial applications? For one thing, it’s stackable, so it’s easy to move around and transport. Also, you don’t need a large amount of space for storing extra chairs. It’s made of molded bent-ply wood that not only adds to the chair’s visual appeal, it contributes to its strength and durability too. Versions of the chair are suitable for outdoor use, which is great news for places with al fresco sections.
Finishes are available in white, black, birch, oak, and walnut. The frame is chrome plated. Whether used as juice bar furniture, bar furniture or café furniture, you can be sure the Skool Chair would never evoke memories of those boring old desks in schoolrooms!
